One of the hardest things I see in the internet marketing field is new marketers who are so totally frustrated with their “failures” that they’re ready to give up. The thing is, despite all the work they claim to be putting into their websites and their promotions, they’re actually setting themselves up for failure.
I wanted to share a post I left on the Warrior Forum yesterday. The title of the post was “Do newbies even stand a chance against professional marketers?” and the original poster was expressing frustration about being one little internet marketing newbie up against major marketing companies (and their major marketing budgets). Here’s my response:
“One of the worst things I see is newbies trying to go after giant niches – like make money online or weight loss – that are so totally saturated by the major players. Yeah, you’re not going to do well if you’re competing for the same keywords as someone with a million dollar marketing budget.
Instead, find your own piece of the pie. There are plenty of niches and plenty of keywords that aren’t competitive – when you find one of those, you won’t need all of the items you describe above to gain a foothold and start making money.”
Again and again, I see newbies enter the internet marketing industry and decide that the best way to money is to jump into these mega niches. Then, when they aren’t ranked #1 within a few days and earning thousands of dollars, they get frustrated and figure that internet marketing in general is a scam.
Now, I’m not out to pass judgment on people who fall into this trap – actually, it’s one I made several times when I was first getting started. The important thing is to recognize as quickly as possible that it’s better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond. The sooner you fully understand and implement this concept, the faster you’ll start making money online.
